I asked on social media the other day about wanting to have a hair transformation and a lot of you said: “no, don’t do it. you’ll regret if you cut you hair…” and that made me second guess it. Because the reality is that I’ve always loved having long dark hair, and it took me 3 years to acquire this length. I went from having pink, blue and blonde hair to having dark long healthy hair and, even though it was strange at first, it has been one of the best things I’ve ever done with my hair. Why? Because It feels more natural and I feel more like myself.

I prefer to have healthy dark hair rather than damaged blue hair. I learned the hard way. Now that I have the health of my hair back, it looks more soft, silky and long. Since I often get asked what I do to keep it like this, I thought I would share real tips and tricks that have helped me maximize the look and feel of my hair. Here are a few of them!

1.Coloring Your Hair Dark!

Having light colors on your hair might look cute for a couple of months but, in my experience, it ends up being more damaging to the hair. That’s why I opted for having dark hair. To be more specific, I like to use the color blue black. Why? Because it gives your hair a natural glossy effect that makes your hair look healthy. The hair color that I’m currently using is the Zotos Professional AGEbeautiful Liqui-Crème anti-aging hair color in 1B Blue Black. I love it because it looks natural with my complexion but at the same time gives me that blue tone that I love. It lasts a long time which means that I don’t have to retouch the color every month which again, helps with the growth of my hair.

Now I’ll be sharing a step by step of how I color my hair at home because is very easy and since I get ask a lot how I do it I thought it would be a good opportunity to show you in a pictorial. So let’s begin!

Step by Step

Step 1: First, I like to wear an old t-shirt and gloves to avoid stains. If this is your first time coloring your hair at home, I recommend to read the instructions and also to do a patch test before you use the product.

Step 2: I squeeze the entire tube of the AGEbeautiful Liqui-Crème Hair Color in Blue Black into an application bottle and add 2 oz. of 20 volume developer. Meaning that I’m using only 1 to 1 mixing ratio. I make sure the application bottle is secure and “Shake, Shake, Shake” the bottle until everything is mixed! Side note: you can use a bowl and brush but is less messy with an application bottle.

Step 3: I apply the entire bottle on my hair from the roots and made sure everything is covered. After that, I leave the color in my hair for 35 minutes.

Step 4: I rinse the color with shampoo and conditioner and style it as usual.

Tips: If you use a dark color, make sure you apply some conditioner around your forehead and ears, you don’t want the color to leave stains.

I love that the Zotos Professional AGEbeautiful Hair Color gives you 100% gray coverage and is sold exclusively at Sally Beauty. 2.Braiding Your Hair!

I was at the grocery store when the cashier asked me: What you do to keep your hair long and with that texture? I replied I slept with 2 French braids. She looked at me like I was crazy lol. The reality is that sleeping with 2 braids helped my hair grow because it makes pretty hair waves without the use of hot tools. I do this a lot and now that summer is here I plan to rock my hair like this all the time.

3. Taking Vitamins

I take hair vitamins every day. I’ve used a few brands and what I can tell you is that the cleaner/pure the vitamin is, the better. I don’t use vitamins that have sugar and I’m very particular with my vitamins so if you want to know more information about it let me know!

4. Eating Avocado Every Week!

As many of you guys know I eat avocados every day and I honestly think that has to do with the look and feel of my hair. I used to not eat avocados and I remember my hair back then used to be very dry. You may laugh but what you eat it shows on your hair too! I also use avocado oil which helps but I can’t say enough good things about eating avocado (is agood fat) so try eating more avocados if you want your hair to look more glossy and shiny, it works. Also doing avocados hair masks helps too!

5. Use Hot Tools Only When Is Necessary!

When I knew I wanted to have long hair, I was committed to changing my hair routine. I decided I was going to use hot tools only when is necessary. So I went from using hot tools 4-5 days per week to using them only once per week and that made a huge difference. Dry shampoo has become my best friend and to do different hairstyles in between washes to preserve the health and look of my hair. So I recommend you do the same, these tips are simple but they work. Sometimes the easiest practices are the ones that are more effective.
